2013: Upcoming Projects

4 February, 2013

Callum has been hard at work orchestrating and arranging the music for a wide range of new musical projects to be performed and recorded in 2013. Here’s a small selection!

Firstly, Callum has transcribed the album ‘Swings Shubert Alley’ by Mel Torme, to perform with vocalist Iain Mackenzie and a new dectet which will feature Callum on trombone. Iain is one of the country’s finest male singers, and is best known as the vocalist in the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra.

Secondly, Callum has arranged the famous standard ‘When I Fall In Love’ for vocalist and pianist Anthony Strong‘s new album. This album will be released on the French label ‘Naive’ in April 2013 – keep an eye out for it!

Thirdly, Callum has arranged the standards ‘Don’t Worry About Me’ and ‘My Love Went To London’ for trombonist Cliff Hardie’s new big band album, set for a late 2013 release. This album features many of the top UK musicians and arrangers, and will be produced by Mark Nightingale.

Fourthly, Callum is currently in the middle of transcribing the album ‘Close to You’ by Frank Sinatra for performance with drummer Matt Skelton, vocalist Matthew Ford, and the Tippett Quartet, for an initial showcase gig at Ronnie Scott’s in Spring 2013.

Finally, Callum will soon be starting up an all-star repertoire band with drummer Matt Skelton to play the music of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. This band will feature top UK jazz stars including Mark Nightingale, Mike Lovatt, Alex Garnett, and Sammy Mayne, alongside some Callum Au Big Band members including Lucas Dodd and Chris Eldred.
